Colin is an extremely experienced Oracle and SQL Server Database Administrator who is equally adept as a SQL Developer. Colin also has additional experience working with DB2 and Informix. Colin's main speciality is database performance tuning, where he has an excellent track record of troubleshooting performance issues and tuning database applications.
Colin graduated at Sheffield Hallam University in 1995 with a 2:1 BSC(Hons) Degree in Business Information Systems.
Colin then spent the next 4 1/2 years at ICL (Fujitsu Siemens) performing various roles including Oracle DBA, Informix DBA and UNIX Systems Administrator.
After a brief spell at iXL Inc (Scient) as a Oracle and DB2 DBA; Colin co-founded RDB Concepts Ltd, performing the role of IT Director, developing a database consultancy along with four other directors. Colin played a major role in all aspects of building the business including creating strategic partnerships with hosting companies, service providers and product vendors. Colin also performed Oracle and SQL Server DBA duties for the majority of RDB Concepts customers. In addition Colin generated extra revenue for the business by outsourcing as a contractor to BT Concert, Brighthouse Stores and Singlepoint 4 U Ltd.
Colin left RDB Concepts in November 2003 to join Pilat Media where he performed the role of DBA team leader; managing a team of ten Oracle DBAs located in the UK, US and Australia. This was a very much hands on role where Colin had to combine performing standard DBA duties along with managing the DBA department and being solely responsible for scheduling all required DBA tasks including installing, upgrading and troubleshooting the IBMS product for all Pilat Media's customers. Colin stayed at Pilat Media up until April 2007 when he left to form Database Support Services Limited.
