Consultancy

Whether you require resources for a long term project, short term project or even for a single day we can provide DBA consultants to meet the needs of your business.

Consultants can be provided for Security Reviews, Upgrades, Health Checks, Holiday and Sickness cover, Performance reviews, full-time contractual DBA Services or any other required DBA task.

Consultancy can be provided either on site or remotely. The benefits of having the consultant working via remote link saves you the hassles of finding desk space for them, looking after them whilst they are on site and of course has a reduced daily rate.

A consultant is typically booked for a minimum period of 8 hours, normally commencing at either 08:00 or 09:00 on working days. However, it is also possible to book a consultant for out of hours work, including weekends or bank holidays.

A statement of work will be provided prior to the commencement of any provided consultancy to ensure that all your requirements are listed and included. 

Custodian*24 Monitoring

IT professionals spend an inordinate amount of time and money installing and maintaining system management applications. Current solutions require so much time and effort that even the largest organisations monitor only a fraction of their total IT investments. In turn, this forces the IT staff to tactically respond only to the most pressing problems. This situation results in customers frustrated by poor performance of business applications and an overwhelmed IT staff.

Custodian*24 is a web-based, 24 by 7 infrastructure monitoring service that can help improve the quality of your IT service, while driving down operational costs. Custodian*24 monitors the performance and availability of servers, applications, storage and network devices. Monitoring is accomplished remotely, and the elements being monitored usually do not require new software to be installed on them. Monitoring both the system infrastructure and the transactions enables IT staff to quickly determine how infrastructure problems affect the end-user experience.

How it Works 
Custodian*24 uses agent based technology that securely connects to and collects information from your chosen elements. Industry standard protocols such as PerfMon, SNMP, HTTP, rstatd and Secure Shell (SSH) are used. This enables data collection to be done remotely, without having to install software on the elements being monitored. Data is securely relayed to the web based Custodian*24 Secure Monitoring Portal. Performance and service level data are displayed in a dashboard format for easy interpretation. 

Alerts sent through Custodian*24 are completely customisable, enabling clients to specify who each warning is sent to within their organisation. Whenever preset thresholds are exceeded, real-time alerts are sent to the appropriate contact via email, pager or SNMP trap. You can also specify different notification and escalation policies, determining who receives alerts and what types of alerts are sent. Using Custodian*24, clients can measure the performance and availability for both Web transactions and infrastructure elements against service level objectives. You can specify particular goals and generate service level graphs to show how well these goals are being met.

The Portal
The Web Portal is an important part of Custodian*24. It provides a customisable view of client systems giving them access to reports and real time system information. New reports can be added to the portal on request, making it an extremely powerful resource.

RDB Resolve

This service can be purchased in addition to Custodian*24 and provides a fully proactive remote DBA support service during normal business hours, typically Monday – Friday between 07:00 – 19:00 (excluding bank holidays). During this coverage time you can treat us as your DBAs, the same as if you were employing a DBA team in-house. Apart from proactive monitoring and support any additional issues or work requests can be logged through our ticket system to be responded to as per SLAs included in the contract.
  
Key Features and Benefits of RDB Resolve
RDB Resolve is a flexible service which can be tailored to meet the needs of your business. However typically, in addition to access to the Custodian*24 Portal, RDB Resolve provides the following:

· All Custodian*24 alerts are directed to our support staff; as well as optionally to your own support staff; for us to react on during the hours of coverage.This will include:
o Take corrective action to fix the problem.
o Recover the system to normal state. 
· Alerts shall continue to be sent to the configured destinations (including your own support staff) outside normal support hours but shall only be acted on by our support staff during the next working day.
· Daily housekeeping, including:
o System availability.
o Capacity Monitoring.
o Error Monitoring, analysis and management.
o System backup monitoring.
o System error monitoring.
o Corrective action for all supported elements is performed.
· Manage system state during business hours:
o Perform and monitor maintenance shutdowns.
o Carry out startups and perform system sanity checks.
· Proactive system administration to help prevent problems from occurring.
· Full database administration activities.
· Monitor capacity of environment.
· Weekly report of all work undertaken.
· Quarterly patch release report.
· Annual incident and history report.
· Quarterly status meeting.
· Personal technician providing a single point of contact to your business.

RDB Manage

This service can be purchased in addition to Custodian*24 and provides a fully proactive 24 by 7 (including bank holidays) remote DBA support service. During this coverage time you can treat us as your DBAs, the same as if you were employing a DBA team in-house. Apart from proactive monitoring and support any additional issues or work requests can be logged through our ticket system to be responded to as per SLAs included in the contract.

RDB Manage is a flexible service which can be tailored to meet the needs of your business. However typically, in addition to access to the Custodian*24 Portal, Custodian*24 Manage provides the following: 

· All Custodian*24 alerts are directed to our support staff; as well as optionally to your own support staff; for us to react on. This will include:

o Perform problem investigation and determination.
o Work to prevent the problem from reoccurring in the future.
· Daily housekeeping.
· Weekly reports of all work undertaken.
· Manage system state during business hours:
o Perform and monitor maintenance shutdowns.
o Carry out startups and perform system sanity checks.
· Proactive system administration to help prevent problems from occurring.
· Full database administration activities.
· Monitor capacity of the environment.
· Return the system to normal operating state after a system crash.
· Quarterly patch release report.
· Annual incident and history report.
· Quarterly status meeting.
· Personal technician providing a single point of contact to your business.
